How to disable Open file – Security warning

If you try to run batch files (.bat or .cmd) from the network share on a Windows Server 2003 you get an “Open file – Security warning” -dialog where you must confirm that you allow the execution of the unsigned file. Basically this prevents scheduled scripts to run on the system.

If you are absolutely sure you want to allow the execution without confirmation, you can add the server which shares the executable file(s) in the Internet Explorer’s Local Intranet Zone. The systax is file://servername not http://servername. Note that this action compromises the system security.

  1. How can i add a network share programtically to the zone so that it does not prompt for that security warning ?

I triend adding the zone to registry but that dont work.

  2. If you get the 😦
    Open File Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure
you want to run this software?

    Go into
    Internet Explorer 7 properties:
    – Security Tab
    – Click (select) Local intranet icon
    – Click Sites
    – Click Advanced
    – Type the server’s name or IP address in the top box and click Add
    – It will show up in the Websites list box
    – Click Close, OK, OK

Run the app without the warning 🙂
It seems that Windows cannot detect the local network, so you need
to supply the name(s) of the local network’s servers.

  3. Yes,
That’s the solution I’m looking for. It works!
